For contractors, business owners, rental companies, municipalities, and concrete professionals looking to learn more about Cart-Away’s history, manufacturing, and more than 35 years of portable concrete innovation.
More than 35 years is a long time to build concrete equipment.
It is long enough to see markets change, technologies improve, businesses come and go, and customer expectations rise. It is also long enough to learn what matters most to the people who depend on your equipment every day.
At Cart-Away, our story has always been about solving a practical problem: How do you make quality concrete available when traditional ready-mix delivery isn’t the right answer?
That question helped shape the portable concrete industry we know today. And with more than 35 years of experience behind Cart-Away, we are still working on better answers.
It Started With a Problem
Long before Cart-Away became the company it is today, there was already a problem with small-volume concrete.
Traditional ready-mix trucks work well when a project requires enough concrete to justify a full truck and when the jobsite fits the supplier’s delivery schedule. Smaller pours are different. Short-load charges can make a relatively small amount of concrete expensive, and contractors can lose valuable labor time waiting for a delivery.
The tow-it-yourself concrete model emerged as an answer. Instead of making every customer depend on a ready-mix truck, concrete could be mixed or loaded into a trailer and taken directly to the project.
Our roots in that market go back more than three decades. In 1993, McClintock Metal purchased the assets of Cart-Away Concrete Systems, bringing its manufacturing experience to the portable concrete industry. McClintock Metal’s fabrication history reaches even further back, beginning as a metal fabrication business in California in 1966.
From the beginning, the opportunity was bigger than simply building another concrete mixer. We could build equipment around an entirely different way of producing, selling, transporting, and using concrete.
Built in Salem. Working Around the World.

Through the 1990s, we continued developing equipment for the trailered ready-mix market. The goal was straightforward: build equipment that could withstand demanding use while helping operators solve the short-load problem.
That philosophy produced innovations that became central to our equipment. We developed the tilt-to-dump delivery trailer and continued refining our long-cone drum design. As the equipment improved, so did the opportunities available to the people using it.
In 2004, another important chapter began when Cart-Away Concrete Systems transitioned to Oregon as a newly formed Oregon corporation, and Oregon became our home.
Unlike most of our competitors who are importing from China, our mixers are manufactured and assembled in Oregon. There is something we take particular pride in when we look at the equipment coming out of our Salem, Oregon facility: what is built here may end up almost anywhere.
Our Oregon-made portable concrete mixer and delivery systems are sold worldwide. Some stay relatively close to home. Others support demanding construction and infrastructure work far from a conventional concrete supply.
Our Salem facility is more than an address on the bottom of a website. It represents something important about the way we do business. We know where our equipment comes from. We know the people building it. We carry the parts needed here in Oregon, and customers can come see where the work happens.
Regardless of where our equipment goes, we want customers to know there is a company behind it. That means parts and service support, people who understand the trailered ready-mix business, and more than 35 years of experience helping customers find concrete systems that make sense for their operations.
That accountability matters when someone’s business, crew, municipality, rental fleet, or remote project depends on the equipment we manufacture. Made in the USA still means a lot to our customers.
We aren’t interested in simply putting another mixer into the field. Our goal has always been to demonstrate great results for our customers.
From Mixing Trailers to Complete Concrete Systems

Over 35+ years of portable concrete innovation, the needs of our customers have continued to evolve.
Some operators need a dependable mixer they can tow to a jobsite. Others want a fleet of trailers to sell concrete from a rental or building-supply location. Larger contractors want greater control over concrete production. Municipalities need equipment available when their crews need it. Remote projects need concrete production where a conventional ready-mix truck can’t go, while militaries need to make concrete in harsh environments. Our product line has evolved alongside those applications.
Mixing trailers became part of a much larger family of portable concrete solutions. Today, equipment such as our MixKing trailers, CBL batching systems, PortaBatch, and CUBE systems demonstrates just how many different forms portable concrete production can take.
We are currently, in Fall 2026, in the Beta Phase of a new generation of batch plants. We have significantly upgraded the software and added scales for spec concrete, additional sensors, internet connectivity, mobile device access, predictive maintenance, larger hopper capacity, and the ability to load both trailers and trucks. Stay tuned for 2027 and announcements to come.
The scale has changed, but the principle has not: Give operators more control over their concrete.
That can mean avoiding a short-load fee on a small pour. It can mean keeping multiple contracting crews supplied. It can mean giving a public works department another option instead of waiting on outside delivery. Or it can mean producing concrete on an island, at a mine, on a mountain, or at another location beyond the practical reach of a ready-mix truck.
Going Beyond the Factory
Equipment alone was never going to make portable concrete successful. People needed somewhere to get it.
Over the years, the Cart-Away model has grown into an important source of short-load concrete in communities across North America. Today, hundreds of Cart-Away-style businesses operate throughout the United States and internationally, and thousands of Cart-Away towable and portable mixers are in use.
Our concrete trailer locator helps customers find Cart-Away portable concrete mixers available in their area. The people relying on these systems are just as varied. Contractors, homeowners, municipalities, and others turn to trailer-delivered concrete when they need an alternative for smaller concrete projects.
What started as a solution to the short-load problem has grown into a concrete service that communities across North America continue to rely on.
Thousands of Mixers, More Than a Million Yards, And a $500M!
After more than 35 years, the strongest part of the Cart-Away story isn’t what happens inside our factory. It’s what happens after our equipment leaves it.
Over the years, thousands of Cart-Away mixers have been put to work, serving rental businesses, construction crews, municipalities, government operations, military installations, and projects around the world. Our portable mixers have collectively dispensed more than a million yards of concrete for contractors, precasters, trail builders, municipalities, and other operators. Those numbers matter to us because they represent actual work getting done.
A sidewalk repaired without waiting for a truck. A contractor keeping a crew productive. A rental company adding another source of revenue. A municipality gaining more control over maintenance work. A remote crew producing concrete where delivery simply isn’t practical.
As we have grown, so has our family of customers, now representing over half a billion dollars!
For us, innovation only matters when it produces those kinds of results.
